The Meghalaya state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today held a virtual state executive meeting with top functionaries of the state regarding the role of the party in the state.

The meeting today was chaired by the BJP state president, Ernest Mawrie with the main speaker being the in charge of Meghalaya, Dr M Chuba Ao.

According to a press communiqué by the party spokesperson, Bernard Marak, various agendas were discussed and debated before a political resolution was approved by those that attended the meeting.

“The political resolution emphasised that the BJP will create mass awareness on the initiative and steps taken by the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” said Bernard.

Many from the party felt that the initiatives taken by the PM was being not honoured by the state government while implementing schemes meant for the poor and under privileged beneficiaries.

“The poor did not receive their due ration during the pandemic; the low cost houses under PMAY (U) became ghost projects, IHHL is a non starter, the job card holders did not get their wages in their accounts, the labours and traders faced immense difficulties as no assistance was provided to them, most of the contractual primary teachers, muster rolls, contractual workers got fired and students faced immense difficulty due to bad mobile connectivity and not being able to afford a simple smart phone due to lack of opportunity,” felt the party leadership.

Further the party opined that in hospitals oxygen tanks were defective, cost of treatment and accommodation were very expensive and half filled oxygen were one of the causes of COVID deaths in many cases.

“We have resolved to monitor the COVID situation in the state and the implementation of centrally sponsored schemes so that the vision of BJP’s leaders is not defeated. We will also monitor preparations of the Government to tackle the situation through mass awareness among the public,” added the release.

The BJP contended that many of the RTIs relating to COVID expenditures and centrally sponsored schemes too remained unanswered.

“The state government should show seriousness and try not to execute the schemes into scams,” they added.

They also questioned the step motherly attitude of the NPP in both the Jaiñtia Hills and Garo Hills region of the state.
