In the space of less than a week, anti-narcotics police and personnel of Madanrting Police Station made their second significant drugs bust in the Madanrting neighbourhood of the city.
Based on intelligence inputs, the authorities raided a house in Madanrting yesterday evening and recovered 2 kilogrammes of opium, Superintendent of Police Sylvester Nongtnger informed today. The photo provided by police suggests that the drugs were being transported in birthday balloons.
A criminal case has been registered and one suspected drug dealer was arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985.
In another drugs bust last Saturday, police arrested two people and seized nearly 200 grammes of heroin and more than Rs 4 lakh in cash in Madanrting.
