After one month of lockdown, the city is set for return of normalcy as Iewduh, the biggest commercial centre of the State, will partially reopen from tomorrow with strict adherence to health protocols.
Out of around 4,000 shops in the market, only 1,222 will be allowed to open that too on rotation basis. On an average 185 shops will open in a day on the basis of A, B, C alphabets.
However, shops dealing in meat, fish and vegetables will remain closed.
Only shopkeepers who have taken the Covid vaccination will be allowed to open their shops.
Meanwhile, the authorities have also allowed vendors to sell their wares at Iewduh from tomorrow on the same basis of A, B, C alphabets.
There are a total of 550 vendors operating on footpaths in this market. 184 of them will be allowed in a day.
The hawkers were sensitised about the new arrangements including rules on masking, social distancing and cleanliness today by the Myntri of Hima Mylliem, Midnight Born Kharlukhi in the presence of a magistrate.
It may be mentioned that the district administration has allowed reopening of Iewduh on conditions that Covid protocols were strictly followed.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo has recently warned that the market is liable to be closed down in case of non-adherence to Covid protocols or detection of any Covid cases among shopkeepers and vendors.
Yesterday, hundreds of shopkeepers of Iewduh thronged the Covid vaccination programme held at the market as per the directives of the district administration.
Recently, the district administration has allowed roadside vendors to resume their activities in Motphran, Khyndai Lad and other areas of the city.
