A 50-bed facility in Umsawli, serving as an adjunct of Shillong Civil Hospital, has come online, thereby increasing the healthcare capacity in the state capital to deal with the Covid-19 second wave.
All 50 beds there are oxygen-supported. None of the beds are currently occupied but could be in action soon, as all 115 beds for corona patients in the Civil Hospital proper are currently taken.
The occupancy rate of Covid-19 beds in Shillong hospitals dropped to 79 percent today with these extra beds.
In Meghalaya as a whole, 72 percent of Covid beds are occupied.
There are now 1,113 such beds (138 in intensive care units (ICUs) and 975 oxygen-supported beds) in the state. As of today, 796 are occupied all over Meghalaya. In Shillong the figure is 659 occupied out of 834.
