Rangsakona MLA Zenith M Sangma today held a constituency-level Covid-19 management and monitoring committee meeting, attended by the Block Development Officer, police officers and doctors.
The meeting highlighted the various development works within the block and the constituency as a whole.
Being frontline workers, the members of the committee are working overtime, risking their lives to fight against the virus.
“The main challenges that we are facing are acute shortage of testing facilities, acute shortage of vaccines and acute shortage of Covid beds,” Sangma said.
He informed that there are only nine oxygen-supported beds in all of South West Garo Hills, of which six are already occupied.
Expressing concern, the Rangsakona Legislator further informed that in the entire district of South West Garo Hills District, only 9 Oxygen supported beds are there and of which 6 are already occupied.
The Congress legislator also highlighted supposed acts of “police highhandedness” when implementing rules and restrictions concerning Covid-19.
Sangma also said that, when the state government is restricting people from earning their living because of the need for coronavirus containment measures, it should also be providing essential commodities to the population.
Later, Sangma visited Asinagre village, which is under containment, and distributed rice, dal, soap, eggs and other items to the households there and in Dolbari. Further distribution drives will take place tomorrow.
