The Hynniewtrep Youths Council (HYC) has called on the state government to provide alternative living arrangements for medical staff on Covid-19 duty in order to protect the latter’s family members.
During the first wave of the pandemic last year the state government had done just that, hiring hotel rooms for healthcare workers on the frontline against the disease. However, the HYC’s Shillong unit said today that this is not being done during the far more severe second wave. The health workers should only be allowed to go home once they get the all-clear after taking a coronavirus test.
The HYC also claimed that there are not enough medical staff in the state to cope with the Covid crisis.
