The entire Khliehriat town, the district headquarters of East Jaintia Hills district was deserted on the weekend lockdown imposed by the government.
Markets and shops were closed except pharmacies and a few vehicles were seen plying on the road.
Similar scenes were also witnessed in Ladrymbai Wapung and Mookhep.
Few vehicles were also seen plying on the National Highway except those on emergency services and those carrying essential goods were seen plying.
Officials of the district administration were on the street trying to enforce the lockdown and making citizens aware of the need for imposing it.
The district so far has 100 active cases.
Meanwhile, there were similar scenes in West Khasi Hills.
In Nongstoiñ the district headquarter streets were deserted barring emergency vehicles that were seen plying on the road. All markets and shops were closed even as few people were seen on the streets.
Similar scenes were also witnessed in Mawshynrut civil subdivision and Mairang civil subdivision.
The recent spike in cases even in rural areas of the state has left a lot of the public worried which can be seen in the lockdown taking effect fully on Saturday.
As per data available, till Saturday afternoon West Khasi Hills has 117 active cases.
It may be mentioned that Mawthadraishan MLA and Cabinet Minister, Brolding Nongsiej had pointed out to the fact that the lockdown should be extended in the district to stop the spread of the virus.
The state government has decided to extend the weekend lockdown in all districts of the state starting from 10 am of every Friday to 5 am of every Monday.
