A conglomeration of four pressure groups in the Umsning area of Ri-Bhoi have demanded that action be taken by the district council or Syiem Mylliem against a headman who allegedly issued a permanent residential certificate to a non-tribal without following due procedure.
Their ire is directed at one SA Kylla, the Rangbah Shnong of Patarim village, who supposedly issued a certificate to one Sonu Kumar. The protesting pressure groups are the Khasi Students Union, Federation of Khasi, Jaiñtia and Garo People, Hynñiewtrep National Youth Front and Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation.
According to them, Kylla violated the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act 2016 by not properly verifying Kumar’s antecedents. They also claimed that Kumar had attacked a local woman in Umsning recently.
The pressure groups have filed a complaint against the headman with the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council and Syiem of Hima Mylliem.
