Ex-MLA Ardent Miller Basaiawmoit today said that the mess in the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL) has become murkier after Lumlin Kharkongor, a former independent director, decided to issue a rebuttal over why she quit the post.
It has been said by one faction in the ongoing saga surrounding alleged MeECL corruption that Kharkongor resigned on a matter of principle, while another faction said she had quit after being taken to task for questionable decisions on her part. Kharkongor then issued her own statement.
“She made it amply clear that she was not very happy with how board meetings were conducted. She also voiced her concern about spot circulation of agenda and insufficient time to study documents,” Basaiawmoit said today. “Therefore, it is obvious that if meetings were held in such a manner, one would presume that there are predetermined objectives in place, and these meetings were held as a matter of formality only. The question being asked now is who does the present style of functioning of MeECL benefit?”
