The Khasi-Jaintia Church Leaders’ Forum (KJCLF) has expressed concern over the unfortunate incidents caused by the restriction imposed by the armed forces on the movement of the public and local residents of Mawshbuit village which has resulted in violence on April 12.
In a statement issued here, KJCLF said such incidents involving the armed forces and the public keep happening from time to time, not only in Mawshbuit but in other places also.
The Forum also noted that timely intervention by civil authorities had prevented the situation from escalating further, and calls upon the armed forces and the public to exercise maximum restraint so that violence is avoided.
It also called upon the concerned authorities including the Government of Meghalaya and the armed forces “to find a lasting and permanent solution to these recurring problems and most importantly, to recognise the plight of the public who suffer because of these unfortunate incidents”.
“We live in a democracy where the people and their welfare should always take precedence,” KJCLF said.
