Meghalaya registered 100 new cases of Covid-19 today, a new record for single-day numbers in 2021.
Fifty-nine of the new infections were reported in East Khasi Hills, with 21 returnees, three armed forces/paramilitaries, five high-risk contacts, 16 in Nongthymmai Lumsohphoh and 12 influenza-like illnesses (ILIs) among those who tested positive.
There were also 29 new cases in West Jaiñtia Hills 19 in Darrang, eight in Dawki, one in Nartiang and one returnee.
There were also six cases in Ri-Bhoi (three high-risk contacts, one returnee, one ILI), three in West Khasi Hills (all returnees), two in East Jaiñtia Hills (both returnees) and one in West Garo Hills (returnee).
There were also five recoveries – two in East Khasi Hills, two in Ri-Bhoi and one in West Garo Hills.
There are now 363 active Covid-19 cases in the state, an increase of 37 percent on the previous day. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 270 active cases and West Jaiñtia Hills 56.
In all, Meghalaya has had 14,485 Covid-19 cases, of which 363 are active, 13,971 have recovered and 151 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has fallen to 96.45 percent. The fatality rate is 1.04 percent. Over 1.61 lakh doses of the Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in Meghalaya as of today.
