The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Amlarem civil sub-division has prohibited the plying of heavy vehicles in excess of 9 tonnes on bridges along the Dawki-Muktapur Road.
The order, passed under Section 144 of the CrPC, was needed after reports of heavy vehicles beyond this limit using the road.
“Considering the precarious condition of a number of bridges lying on the route, the plying of heavy vehicles will further deteriorate the condition of the bridges, endanger the lives of the citizens who commute on the bridges, create traffic jams on the narrow road, cause obstruction and annoyance to the general public and may result in disturbance of the public peace and tranquility unless immediately prevented,” a press release stated today.
The order will come into force with immediate effect and will remain until further notice.
