Unhappy with the state government’s failure to heed their demands, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Khasi Jaiñtia Deficit School Teachers Association (KJDSTA) and Garo Hills Deficit School Teachers and Employees Association (GHDSTEA) has threatened to launch their second phase of agitations to get what they want.
The teachers are demanding the state government extend the retired benefit schemes, to enhance the death-cum-retirement gratuity from Rs 3.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, which is at par with the recommendation of the 5th Pay Commission, to release the pending arrears of the revised pay scale, to extend medical reimbursement to the deficit teachers and to implement the recommendation of the 5th Pay commission with regards to deficit school teachers.
The first round of the protests saw the deficit teachers take mass casual leave of three days earlier this month.
