Suspension of a senior engineer by the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL) over failure to perform his duty diligently in matters related to power purchase and power banking has annoyed the engineer’s association terming it as a subversive step and a detrimental act that could be prejudicial to the interest of the organisation.
Superintending Engineer (Energy Management) of the MeECL, H. Jyrwa was suspended by the management on February 17 and was accused of negligence and caused loss to the organisation.
Insiders in the know of the goings on in the MeECL alleged that the senior engineer was suspended for not “obeying the bosses in matters related to power trade. He was an officer with impeccable character and served the organisation for almost 30 years,” they said.
Meanwhile, the MeECL Engineer’s Association will hold a protest tomorrow in the office at Lumjingshai, power station and sub-station premises of MeECL across the State as the management failed to reinstate the officer which according to them was unjustified.
The association said that the officer was able to maintain uninterrupted power supply that resulted in no load shedding during the dry months of December, 2020 and January, 2021. “The suspension order is uncalled for, unjustified and hence arbitrary,” the association said.
Pointing out that the management has never issued any standard operating procedure in respect of the office of the SE (EM), which was set up only in recent years the association said, “To draw conclusions of suspending the officer is baseless since he has not caused loss to the organisation as alleged.”
The executive committee of the association however took exception to the losses caused through the special tariff allowed for Byrnihat Industries Association and the various LAOs issued by the management at exorbitant rates for projects on smart meters, Saubhagya and ERP.
