In an effort to look after issues of the residents of the area around the coal-rich town of Nongalbibra in South Garo Hills, new members of the Nongalbibra Joint Action Committee (JAC) were appointed during a recent meeting last week.
The public meeting was held in the presence of the Daranggre Nokma Welfare Association (DNWA) and several local prominent NGOs of the area. The meeting was also attended by residents of other communities as well as businessmen from the area.
New office bearers were elected, with Manuel M Sangma being chosen as President and Zinbaward N Sangma as the General Secretary and Publicity Secretary of the new JAC. The residents also chose Karnesh N Sangma and Direndro Sangma as Advisors.
The group will be assisted by Santona Sangma as Vice-President and Silbath Marak as Joint Secretary. The other office bearers include Tangseng S Marak and Arwith Marak as Organizing Secretaries, Keningson G Momin as Accountant, Heninson M Sangma as Treasurer with Piltingson N Sangma and Theophil Sangma as Auditors.
