The Meghalaya Joint Action Committee of Commercial Vehicles (MJACCV) today refused to attend a meeting called by the district administration to discuss on the revised fares.
President of the committee, Wandonbok Jyrwa said that the Deputy Commissioner does not have the authority to decide on fares.
On the other hand, the All Meghalaya Commercial Vehicle Owners and Drivers Association (AMCVO&DA) met the Deputy Commissioner and sought for increase of fares.
Meanwhile, East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo said that in January 2020 the state government has already come up with revised fares.
“If there is any reasonable request which if fully justified and which we can consider and important to take up at this point we will forward it to the government,” Laloo said.
She said that the issue of hike in fuel has already been taken up by the government even as she added that the limited topic of discussion of the meeting was revised fare structure.
Laloo said that she convened the meeting just to discuss the issue of taxi fares in East Khasi Hills district.
