In yet another case of alleged misappropriation in Demdema Community and Rural Development Block, one Abdul Salam, a resident of Shialkandi, has filed a complaint with the Block Development Officer (BDO) after a Technical Assistant allowed for the withdrawal of money for a private fishery by claiming that it was done under the national rural employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGS).
According to Salam, the fishery was constructed by him at his private residence in January.
“Shockingly, the VEC (Village Employment Council) Secretary and the Technical Assistant of Shialkandi have prepared a bill in the name of one Abdul Baten and the money has been withdrawn showing the photo of the fishery. The Secretary has claimed that the fishery was constructed by him,” said Salam.
The complainant called the act by the Secretary as well as the Technical Assistant as highly illegal and sought action against both in the case.
“There has been no pond constructed by Abdul Baten and the fishery in question is my own and has been constructed by myself. This is a condemnable act and needs to be acted upon with immediate effect,” added Salam.
Several similar cases of manipulation have been reported in the recent past from the same block.
