“Therefore if anybody is conducting illegal coal mining is involved in illegal mining the government will take very strict action against those people,” Sangma said.
The Chief Minister also said that 17 persons have been picked up by the police after six persons died in a mining accident on Thursday at a place known as Sorkari near Deinshalalu village in East Jaiñtia Hills District.
“In an early morning report I received today 17 people have been picked up by the police to be interrogated and find out more details of what happened,” the Chief Minister said.
When asked if the incident shows that illegal coal mining is continuing, Sangma said that there are laws put in place for everything, there is section 302 for murder.
“But obviously murder takes place,” he said.
