A delegation of the Meghalaya unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), led by its President, Ernest Mawrie, is raking up allegations of corruption in the autonomous district councils, this time in New Delhi.
Yesterday, the delegation had briefed the party’s national President on alleged corruption in the Garo and Jaiñtia Hills Autonomous District Councils (GHADC and JHADC) and today it was the turn of the delegation to visit Union Minister of State for Home, G Kishan Reddy.
The councils are run by parties who the BJP is in coalition with at the state government level and the allegations led to serious arguments in public between the opposing sides.
Speaking over the phone from New Delhi, Mawrie said that these matters were discussed with Reddy. “We also took up the issue of the political situation and law and order scenario in the state,” he said.
Reddy reportedly assured the Meghalaya unit that he will discuss the possibility of conducting an inquiry into the councils with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
“Yes there should be an inquiry since they have misused (funds) as per documents that we have,” Mawrie said.
The Meghalaya BJP representatives also submitted a copy of Right to Information (RTI) findings on the alleged corruption in the two autonomous district councils to Reddy.
Mawrie also said the issue of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) was also discussed.
