The Block Development Officer of Mawryngkneng, in partnership with the East Khasi Hills District Commerce & Industries Centre organized a one day orientation programme for entrepreneurs and self-help groups in Mawryngkneng today.
The programme, which was attended by the senior officers from the DCIC and Block Development Officer, Ronnie Wahlang highlighted the need of the entrepreneurs and SHGs to avail the benefits under the scheme. The BDO, while inaugurating the orientation programme, lamented that very few entrepreneurs have availed the scheme, either for want of knowledge or fear of being unable to repay the loans.
He also lamented the fact that hard work and confidence evades many young entrepreneurs and SHGs within the block and therefore the scheme is not availed. He called upon the members present to avail the opportunities provided by the scheme and to be determined, resolute, honest and industrious in implementing the scheme as and when granted.
With the current pandemic, wherein many returnees have had to forego employment, the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) is an opportunity for returnees to set up their own functional enterprises. The sessions on the PMEGP scheme were provided by the officers of the DCIC, led by the Functional Manager, Gordon Langstieh.
The sessions were interactive and the participants, who included young entrepreneurs and members of SHGs, expressed anticipation and eagerness to avail the scheme.
