Roads in Ranikor civil subdivision are in such a parlous state that villagers are forced to visit Bangladesh if they require medical treatment, the United A’chik Youth Federation (UAYF), an NGO based in South West Khasi Hills, has claimed.
In a press release today, the UAYF said that it has written to the Subdivisional Officer on the matter but to no effect.
The affected villages are Kalapahar, Rajai and Cheragao, all near the international border with Bangladesh.
“The roads connecting these villages are extremely damaged due to floodwaters of the Jondo stream. The matter has been informed to the SDO’s office in Ranikor but there have been no measures taken to rectify the situation,” UAYF President Sangra Marak said.
“The people are in great difficulty and have resorted to visiting Bangladesh to get treatment for medical emergencies. It’s not their fault as they find navigating the road extremely difficult. It is extremely sad that they have been neglected by the local and state administration in this manner,” he added.
