Shortage of staff at various police stations and outposts across the State has overburdened police personnel who felt it was fitting for the Home Department to implement a notification passed on change of trade from ABC/BNC to UBC.
The problem of staff crunch was raised by policemen who stated that they have to handle cases of crime, laws, traffic control and civil cases. They said that a post which requires 12 personnel had to be handled by just three personnel.
Urging the department to implement the July 30, 2019 notification asking willing armed branch constables, battalion constables who have served the department not less than six years and possess HSSLC qualification to change their trade to un-armed branch constables the policemen said this would not affect their work and proficiency.
With the creation of new districts, police stations and outposts there are many vacancies that require the department to recruit unarmed branch personnel, however the police personnel rue that due to Covid-19 pandemic the recruitment process was halted.
They pointed out that changing trade was earlier done in 2008 and 2010.
