This year’s Shad Nongkrem of Hima Khyrim will be observed without members of the public taking part in the festivities due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The two-day annual dance, which is a big draw for members of the public, will be held on November 24 and 25.
Due to the pandemic, Hima Khyrim has requested the public not to congregate at the venue in Smit.
The Deputy Syiem, known as the Syiem Khynnah, Habapan Sing Syiem said today, “We will not be able to be together this year,” and lamented that the festival will miss the presence of the faithful.
The government has granted permission for only eight male dancers and not more than 30 participants on the first day’s procession from the Ïng Sad to Lum Pomblang. On the second day only 40 dancers (20 male and 20 female) are allowed to take part in the festivities.
During the two-day annual event dancing and sacrifice of goats is held within the courtyard of the Ïng Sad.
