The State Rural Employment Society (SRES) conducted a site inspection today of the construction work under the rural employment guarantee scheme (MGNREGS) in Umlyngka, East Khasi Hills.
Last month it was reported by Highland Post that an RTI filed by activist Agnes Kharshiing on behalf of locals found that lakhs of rupees have been released for MGNREGS projects even though the requisite work was unfinished.
It was also found that at least one family has two members who hold MGNREGS job cards, which is strictly forbidden in the rules.
Informing that they are yet to complete the inspection of all the sites, SRES Joint Mission Director Iarap Hunlin Diengdoh said that the final report will be prepared only after they have submitted their reports along with all the findings, including measurements and comparisons that will be made with the planning estimates that they will obtain from the office of the Block Development Officer (BDO).
“We cannot comment anything on the matter as long as we have not seen the planning estimate from the office of the BDO,” Diengdoh said, adding that she is yet to go through the RTI documents, including the issue related to the job cardholders.
