The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of truck owners and transporters in Jaiñtia Hills has decided to protest against cement companies, by holding a blockade on November 5.
The committee that includes the All Jaiñtia Cement Clinker Transporters Association, Jaiñtia Hills Truck Owners Association and the Meghalaya Trucks Union said that fares fixed by the Deputy Commissioner, the cement companies failed to comply with it.
As per the order, all the cement plants in the district have to comply with the fares fixed by the District Transport Authority. For heavy and medium goods vehicles (diesel), the minimum revised fare for black top road is Rs 7 per MT per Km whereas the maximum revised fare is Rs 11 per MT per Km.
For graveled top road, the minimum revised fare is Rs 8 per MT per Km and the maximum revised fare is Rs 12 per MT per Km. The minimum revised fare for Kutcha road has been fixed at a minimum of Rs 10 per MT per Km and at a maximum of Rs 14 per MT per Km.
