Religious leaders under the banner of the Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF) cautioned the public not to be taken in by instigators from outside Meghalaya who aim to disturb the peace and harmony of the state.
SAFF Vice-President Naba Bhattacharjee today said that the peaceful Durga Puja celebrations, which concluded recently, were a “victory for the people of Meghalaya.”
The puja holidays came just days after communal tensions threatened to spill over. According to Bhattacharjee, those who tried to create a communal divide could be based outside the state.
“Please do not fall into the trap of people from outside,” he said in a message to the Meghalaya public.
SAFF President Rev Purely Lyngdoh said that the recent happenings in Shillong have brought about unpleasant feelings amongst all sections of society.
According to Rev Lyngdoh, SAFF discussed the issue during a special meeting held at the Archbishop’s House, Laitumkhrah today.
“We appeal to all people of the state, like the religious groups, the NGOs and the political parties, not to succumb to hearsay and all that is being written on social media without knowing the truth,” he said.
