The bodies of a mother and daughter duo drowned in the Umngot River in West Jaiñtia Hills were retrieved by the search and rescue teams today.
According to police, the deceased, Julias Lymba and her eight-year-old daughter Tariang Lymba drowned after their wooden boat used capsized on Wednesday morning.
Lymba and her three daughters went to the river for fishing. Two others in the same boat managed to escape.
The search and rescue team of the SDRF, Fire and Emergency Services and villagers was launched since yesterday. However, the rescue operation had to be halted due to nightfall.
Police said the operation was resumed Thursday morning and after every effort the body of the minor was recovered. The body of the mother was recovered later in the evening.
