Beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have complained that there is a delay in releasing the first installment of the fund.
Residents of Mawkohphet and Mawkhyrwang villages in South West Khasi Hills said while work order was issued since April this year, delay in the release of funds is putting them in a fix with some of them worry that they will be left without a solid roof above their heads.
“How long can we withstand this delay? We are poor people who are dependent on the government to provide us with shelter, yet this inordinate delay is affecting us,” one of the beneficiary said.
The beneficiaries said that when they were selected they were being told by authorities that there will be no delay in the release of funds. “Since we were given an assurance that there will be no delay some of us have even borrowed money from our relatives to buy needed materials for constructing our home, but now we are in debt,” they added.
The beneficiaries also claimed that there were some issues related with account number in the bank which was later rectified. However, days later they were informed that no fund was left.
