The office bearers and members of the 30th September Victims Solidarity Forum has decided to tone down memorial service this year in view of the spread of Covid-19.
Every year, homage is paid to the nine victims that lost their lives in police firing while peacefully protesting against the bifurcation of MBOSE in Tura and Williamnagar (Simsanggre).
As the incident took place on September 30, 2005, prayer services are offered with a candle light vigil to remember those that lost their lives.
Memorial services are held at Chandmary playground in Tura and the Rongrengre Field at Simsanggre each year since 2006.
“Due to the unprecedented health crisis across it is not possible for us to organise a memorial service as usual and so the ‘Inter Denominational Memorial Church Service’ for the martyrs will not be held this year in Chandmary Playground,” informed chairman of the forum, Manseng Sangma.
However, the forum leaders stated that they would pay a visit to the victims’ families and graveyards in the morning along with the family members.
The constituent organisations of the forum and its leaders’ will later pay a floral tribute in Chandmary Playground where its memorial cenotaph was built, in the evening of September 30.
The forum added that whoever wished to pay tributes would be welcomed at the Chandmary playground in adherence to Covid protocols.
