Woman delivers twins after villagers carry her for 7 kms to PHC

In another act that shows humanity still being alive, a pregnant woman in East Garo Hills, was carried at least 7 kms from her village to the nearest PHC to help her give institutional birth.
In further good news for the hard work it required to help the pregnant woman, the lady later delivered twins after she was carried on a makeshift bamboo stretcher.
As per information from both Deputy Commissioner of East Garo Hills, Swapnil Tembe and the NHM Meghalaya facebook page, the woman was brought from the village of Gilmatdam by at least 4-5 men, who carried her in the bamboo stretcher for at least 7 kms to the PHC. The NHM called the woman a role model for institutional delivery.
The incident took place on Friday and both mother and the children are said to doing fine.
Tembe through his social media post shared the story while praising the efforts of the people who helped the woman to the PHC appreciating their determination to help the woman.
Most who came to know of the incident called the same a heroic act with praise going for the hard work put in by her neighbours in ensuring she could safely deliver her children.
Some however pointed to the poor connectivity that still ails the rural sections of the state, calling for the administration and the state to ensure better infrastructure so that people don’t have to risk their lives in trying to get medical help.
