Shillong, Sep 17 : After decades as an eyesore on Shillong’s skyline, hopes that the under construction Crowborough Hotel in Khyndailad here might be close to completion look slim after Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) Chairman Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar said today that less than 30 per cent of the internal construction has been completed.
Tongkhar and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma carried out an inspection of the worksite on Monday and predicted that the hotel might still take another year before getting on its feet.
“There are many internal works, like tiles, ceiling, furniture, fixtures and wall paneling that are still incomplete,” he said.
Even though the skeleton of the building has been in existence for years, it could still take another 12 months for the planned five-star hotel to be ready.
The hotel was supposed to be handed over to the government by the construction firm this month.
“I hope that the construction of the hotel speeds up so the proportion of funds released by the MIDC tallies,” he said, informing that a sum of Rs 28 crore has been released from the total amount of Rs 45 crore sanctioned.
