Tura, Sep 16 : The Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) has once again hit out at the executive committee of the council after the NGEA President was suspended from his post on September 11.
Senora Johny Arengh, who works in the Taxation Department, was suspended after the GHADC said it was not satisfied with his response to a show cause notice issued by the council.
NGEA members alleged that Arengh has been singled out for their own denial of salaries for the last 28 months.
Employees of the GHADC have been in a pitched battle with the GHADC authorities over their pending salaries with the matter now being fought in High Court of Meghalaya.
“We are legally fighting for our dues, which have been deliberately kept pending despite there being abundant funds as has been
declared by the EC,” said a release by the NGEA today.
The NGEA accused the EC of resorting to retaliatory actions against them for claiming their rights. They added that rumours are
now being fuelled of the NGEA members working for their personal cause.
The NGEA highlighted illegal appointments that were allegedly undertaken by the Secretary of the GHADC, Rikse Marak. According to them, a casual driver, Ambrose Ch Momin, and a casual orderly, Padmini Koch, were appointed without any legal procedures being followed. One of them was even appointed twice.
The NGEA listed more anomalies, this time in the appointment of the Secretary, Rikse Marak herself.
They alleged that Marak had been appointed through a backdated appointment letter.
According to them, the MCS officer was to join on February 4, 2019 but actually joined on January 11, 2019 after an emergency meeting held by the GHADC EC. They alleged that the secretary was supposed to only join after an approval of the EC on February 4.
“It seems that the EC took a unanimous decision to divert all the funds received by them for other purposes during the same meeting,” they alleged.
