Shillong, Jul 1: Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong has lauded the traditional heads of Khliehriat in East Jaiñtia Hills district for being vigilant and detecting the a person who has come from outside the State who tried to escape quarantine.
“The traditional heads as soon as they came to know that a person had entered their area immediately swung into action and took the person to the quarantine centre,” the Deputy Chief Minister said today.
It may be mentioned that a bank official of the State Bank of India from Assam who was transferred to Khliehriat escaped the mandatory testing at Byrnihat and Shillong Civil Hospital. He was tested positive for the virus yesterday.
He was transferred as the branch manager of the SBI Khliehriat branch.
According to Tynsong, at the entry point, the person had shown some documents stating that he was tested for Covid-19 in Assam 4 to 5 days before entering Meghalaya and the results yielded negative results. The person entered the State on June 28.
When asked why the government is not opting for random testing the Deputy Chief Minister said that the State already has a mechanism in place to check people for the virus on entry or exit and therefore there are lesser positive cases here when compared to other parts of the country.
According to Tynsong, for random testing the inputs have to come from the respective district administrations, like the Deputy Commissioners, the District Medical and Health Officers or the District Vigilance Unit.
“The government will leave no stone unturned. Once we receive feedback we are ready to do that. As of now there is no input for random testing,” Tynsong said.
