Distance yourself, wear mask or face stern action

Shillong Jul 1: People who do not adhere to Covid-19 protocols by not maintaining social distancing or not wearing face masks will now face stern action.
This was informed by Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong today who said that the State government has empowered the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police in all the districts of the State to implement the protocols strictly and issue necessary notifications to inform the public about this.
Tynsong said that during the review meeting today, the protocols issued by the State health department on maintaining social distancing and wearing of face mask was discussed thoroughly especially after seeing that many people have taken the protocols and notifications issued by the government very lightly.
“We decided that formal requests would be made to the local authorities like Dorbar Shnongs as well as organisations that the protocols should be adhered to strictly,” Tynsong said.
He said that all this while, the government has been making appeals to the citizens to follow the protocols but it appears that people did not take this seriously.
It may be pointed out that people have been violating the social distancing norms especially while venturing out in public places including markets and shops.
Tynsong said that it is through the support and cooperation received from the Dorbar Shnong that the government has been able to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the State.
Earlier, around 7000 community management committees on Covid-19 were constituted in various localities in both urban and rural areas to fight against the virus.
These committees at the village level worked hard by implementing the protocols strictly and also set up the community quarantine centres for stranded citizens who returned to the State from other parts of the country.
The State government had also extended one-time financial assistance of Rs 5000 to each active community management committee for helping the government in supervising the community quarantine centres and taking care of the returnees who have come home from other parts of the country.
