Shillong, Nov 6: Preparations for the Shillong Lok Sabha by-election has begun, though the election process itself has not started.
East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhilash Baranwal said a meeting chaired by Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari on Friday directed officials to start preparatory work after the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll was completed and the final roll published.
Officials have been asked to begin requisitioning vehicles, identifying manpower and infrastructure so the machinery is ready when the Election Commission mandates the poll.
On concerns about the by-election clashing with festivals and examinations, Baranwal said the CEO’s office and the Election Commission of India would be mindful of it.
