Shillong, Oct 31: Cabinet Minister Metbah Lyngdoh has resigned from the MDA-II Government amid political turmoil in the United Democratic Party (UDP).
Lyngdoh, who was sworn in as Cabinet Minister on September 16, 2025 holding Power, Water Resources and Textiles portfolios, announced his decision on Saturday.
Speaking to reporters, the Mairang MLA said he has resigned only as Cabinet Minister and that the UDP is still supporting the MDA-II government.
He said he resigned considering the political developments after 11 UDP MLAs left the party.
Eight of them had earlier joined the BJP, while three recently joined the NPP. Both BJP and NPP are allies in the MDA-II government led by NPP, which is also an ally of the NDA government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Meanwhile, sources indicated that Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma may announce a fresh list of Cabinet Ministers to be inducted and those to be dropped next week.
