Shillong, Oct 29: The Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has warned that a 300mm gravity main of the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (Phase 3) to Mawpat Reservoir will be tested on Friday.
The warning comes after a pipe burst during testing on October 15, with the water having enough force to cause vehicles to crash into each other.
The pipeline runs from Keating Road to Polo through Police Bazar and Jail Road towards Langkyrding. It was in Polo that the previous pipe burst.
The PHE Chief Engineer has advised the general public not to be near the right of way of the pipeline as indicated above during the testing and commissioning to avoid any unforeseen incidents. No timing was given for the testing.
