Shillong, Oct 27: The Hynniewtrep Integrated Territorial Organisation (HITO) has urged Meghalaya’s Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) to investigate Riangdo Veneers Pvt Ltd at Umiam and cancel its licence if violations are proven under the Meghalaya Forest-Based Industries Rules 1998.
In a complaint signed by HITO president Donbok Dkhar and political secretary Gary S Marboh, the pressure group alleged several irregularities, including installation of additional machinery beyond approved capacity, unauthorised use of land for timber storage and labour accommodation, operation beyond permitted hours and procurement of immature timber without valid documentation.
The organisation also raised concerns over possible excess timber consumption, discrepancies between stock records and actual timber stored and practices that may undermine sustainable forest management and local community welfare.
HITO has sought verification of all allegations and requested action under applicable forest laws if violations are established.
