Editor,
Since the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, voter lists of 17 States/Union Territories have shrunk by 15.7 percent as per the draft rolls published by the Election Commission after Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
It has been reported that illegal ways were adopted to change the Form 6 in which new voters apply for addition of their names in the voter list and the power of Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) has been hijacked by the Election Commission’s Director General of IT.
This situation demands a clear explanation from the ECI, the government, and the apex court as to why this faulty SIR, along with the assembly elections conducted on its basis, should not be cancelled.
