Shillong, Sep 26: The Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Martin Luther Christian University (MLCU), will host Student Conclave India, 2026 from October 1 to 3 at its Umsawli campus.
Organised by DTORR India in collaboration with UN Tourism, the three-day conclave will bring together tourism and travel students, academicians and industry representatives from across the country.
The event will feature student competitions, interactive activities, knowledge-sharing, cultural exchange and networking, along with community engagement in Sohra to explore Meghalaya’s culture and community-based tourism practices and promote responsible and sustainable tourism.
Meanwhile, the Department observed World Tourism Day early with a community outreach programme at Mawlong village on Thursday.
The programme began with a cleaning drive at Mawlong viewpoint by students and faculty, followed by a ‘Responsible Tourism’ awareness programme at Mawlong SSA RC LP School, attended by students, teachers and principals of Mawlong Presbyterian School and Mawlong SSA RC LP School, and Rangbah Shnong Andrew Nongrum.
The session focused on responsible tourism practices and the role of digital tools in promoting sustainable tourism, sensitising schoolchildren and locals on protecting Mawlong’s natural and cultural heritage through community participation and environmental responsibility.
