Editor,
The Election Commission told the apex court that the SIR in Bengal had not materially altered the election result against the ruling TMC as the party won from 21 constituencies where the deletions exceeded the winning margin. This logic sounds ridiculous as more than 37 lakh appeals are still in the cold storage and in many constituencies the deletions exceeded the winning margin of the BJP.
Any election that deprives lakhs of legitimate voters to vote cannot be called valid. The EC’s argument is akin to someone who fatally shot many people claiming because 21 people within his shooting range escaped bullet wounds, it proves he did not want to kill anyone.
