Shillong, Sep 23: A high-level Thai delegation led by Urasa Mongkolnavin, Director-General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, visited NEHU to explore academic collaboration with Thai Universities.
Vice-Chancellor-in-Charge Prof. S. K. Barik welcomed the delegation and proposed a “Centre for Indo-Thai Collaboration” at NEHU as an umbrella platform for joint research, faculty and student exchange, and academic programmes.
Mongkolnavin said Thailand sees the visit as the beginning of a long-term association, not a one-time engagement. She stressed on exchange of ideas, joint research and student mobility, and said formal MoUs would provide institutional framework.
She also highlighted that one Thai delegate is an NEHU alumnus with a Ph.D. in Hindi.
Thai universities presented scholarship opportunities with tuition waivers for Masters and Doctoral students, and a two-year action plan for Thai Studies Centres in Assam and Meghalaya, including learning corners, Thai language resources, seminars and an annual Thai-India Symposium.
NEHU Deans presented expertise in Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, IT, Nanotechnology and Cultural Studies.
Both sides agreed to push for MoUs, joint seminars, and student mobility across Science, IT, Nanotech, Medicine, Traditional Medicine and Cultural Studies.
