Shillong, Sep 16: The Meghalaya High Court has closed the proceedings against the Uttar Pradesh tourists who trashed a Laitumkhrah homestay on July 11, after they completed their court-ordered penance.
Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere on Tuesday noted that the Rs 25,000 compensation by the petitioners had been paid and the compliance report showed they had finished their community service – three days at the Gurudwara and work with Project Operation Clean-Up.
The FIR at Laitumkhrah PS, quashed earlier on payment of Rs 2.06 lakh and six days of service, now stands fully complied with.
But the court took serious note of a new violation – despite orders to conceal identities as some accused are juveniles and all are students, their photographs and Aadhaar cards were circulated on social media.
Public Prosecutor N.G. Shylla assured the court that the State will get the photos and documents removed from social websites within two weeks.
Noting full compliance, the Chief Justice closed the matter with no further directions.
