Shillong, Sep 10: A family at Murikhati village in South West Garo Hills was affected after wild elephants damaged their houses in the early hours of Wednesday.
The incident occurred around 12:30 am when an elephant damaged residential structures of Khetish Hajong and Obharani Hajong. The kitchen and storehouse of Khetish Hajong were severely damaged, while the kitchen of Obharani Hajong was also badly damaged.
The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), South West Garo Hills, provided immediate relief, with groceries distributed to Khetish Hajong.
The district administration said details of the affected families have been collected and verified for further assistance, as part of its commitment to provide timely help to communities hit by human-wildlife conflict.
