Shillong, Sep 5: A petrol bomb was allegedly hurled at MECOFED Mawiong Wholesale Regulated Market at Mawiong Umjapung in the early hours of Saturday, causing minor damage to the main door.
The incident is suspected to have occurred between 1 am and 5 am. No major damage was reported. Police have launched an investigation.
In another incident, a tyre was found burning in the middle of a road at Mawblei around 1:30 am Saturday, with a handwritten warning note nearby.
A cardboard bearing message “Wat kem kulmar ioh kan pluh” (Stop random arrest or it will burn) was found propped near the fire. No one was found at the spot. Police from Madanriting PS later extinguished the fire.
While the meaning of the warning and identity of those behind remain unclear, incidents come amid recent arrests of KSU leaders in connection with the violence during a bike rally on August 19.
