Nongpoh, Aug 17: District authorities of Ri-Bhoi and Kamrup (Metro), Assam, held a joint meeting at the DRDA Hall in Nongpoh on Monday to discuss measures to address recurring flooding along the Jorabat-Khanapara stretch.

The Jorabat-Khanapara stretch has repeatedly witnessed severe flooding, causing inconvenience to residents along the National Highway and disrupting vehicle movement. During rains, large portions of the highway are often inundated, leading to serious traffic disruptions.
The meeting was chaired by Ri Bhoi Additional Deputy Commissioner Balakyntiew Ranee. District officials from Ri-Bhoi attended, while Kamrup (Metro) was represented by Additional Deputy Commissioner Raja Baishya and other officials.
A key objective was to identify underlying causes and explore long-term solutions. The two district administrations stressed the need for close coordination and cooperation between the Governments of Meghalaya and Assam to provide lasting relief to people affected by the recurring floods.
