Shillong, Aug 8: Tura MP Saleng A. Sangma recently submitted a reminder memorandum to Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda, reiterating the need for greater central support to strengthen Meghalaya’s healthcare infrastructure.
After a session with the Minister, Sangma personally handed over the memorandum which highlighted longstanding gaps in the state’s medical facilities and called for urgent intervention.
Key demands in the memorandum include the establishment of two additional medical colleges in Meghalaya to address the shortage of doctors and medical seats. The MP also sought the upgradation of all Primary Health Centres into Community Health Centres with adequate medical personnel and essential facilities.
Sangma further requested that Civil Hospitals in every district be strengthened and equipped with modern diagnostic machinery and essential medical equipment. He stressed the need to enhance the diagnostic and treatment capacity of district hospitals so that patients do not have to travel outside their districts for comprehensive healthcare services.
The MP said the memorandum serves as a reminder of the pressing need to ensure equitable access to quality medical services across the state.
Sangma added that he remains committed to raising Meghalaya’s healthcare priorities at the national level.
