Shillong, Aug 7: A delegation of Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep with the Synjuk Ki Rangbah Kur Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep on Friday met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong.
The delegation submitted a memorandum regarding the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council’s Regulation and Administration of Land Amendment Bill 2026 and the related notification on fixation of land ceiling.
The two organisations had submitted a similar memorandum to the Meghalaya Governor earlier in the week opposing the KHADC amendment as a dilution of the role of traditional institutions which have, for generations, functioned as custodians of indigenous administration.
The CM reiterated the government’s commitment to protect traditional institutions, customary governance, indigenous land rights and the unique matrilineal heritage of Meghalaya. The delegation expressed appreciation for the positive discussion.
