Shillong, Aug 5: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026 for Meghalaya has resulted in a draft electoral roll of 21,69,243 electors across all 60 Assembly constituencies, with 1,80,402 names excluded after verification and 2,22,786 electors marked for further checks during the claims and objections period.

The draft roll was published today, marking the start of the statutory window for filing claims and objections, which will remain open until September 4. After disposal of all claims and objections, the final electoral roll will be published on October 7.

Chief Electoral Officer BDR Tiwari said the state achieved 100 per cent distribution and digitisation of enumeration forms during the revision exercise. A total of 23,49,645 electors were covered under the process.

According to the CEO, the figures reflect the outcome of intensive field verification carried out by Booth Level Officers across the state. Following this verification, 1,80,402 electors were identified under the Absent, Shifted, Deceased and Duplicate (ASDD) categories and have been excluded from the draft roll.

Another 2,22,786 electors could not be mapped with the 2005 SIR database during the current revision. Their records will undergo further verification during the claims and objections period to ascertain their status and ensure that no eligible voter is left out.

During the one-month claims and objections period, electors can file applications for inclusion of names, deletion, correction of particulars and transposition within constituencies. Special camps will be held at polling station locations on designated dates to receive forms and assist voters. Political parties have also been asked to appoint Booth Level Agents to help in the process and to submit claims and objections on behalf of eligible voters.

The CEO urged all eligible citizens whose names do not appear in the draft roll, or whose details are incorrect, to file claims within the stipulated period. He also appealed to family members to report cases of deceased electors or those who have permanently shifted out, so that the roll can be kept updated.

The SIR was conducted with reference to January 1, 2026 as the qualifying date. This is the first comprehensive revision since 2005 and the exercise involved door-to-door verification, collection of documents and cross-checking with existing databases.

Election officials said that once the final roll is published on October 7, it will be used for all future elections in the state until the next revision.

The department has set up helpdesks at the district and sub-divisional levels to address queries from the public during the claims period.

With the publication of the draft roll and the addition of new polling stations, the Election Department said preparations for the next electoral cycle are now underway, with emphasis on transparency, accuracy and voter facilitation across all 60 Assembly constituencies.
