Shillong, Aug 5: East Garo Hills is hosting the Elite Men and Women State Boxing Championship for the very first time.
The three-day tournament, organised by the Meghalaya Boxing Association in collaboration with the East Garo Hills District Boxing Association, began in Williamnagar today and will conclude tomorrow.
Marking a major step for sports in the region, the championship has brought elite pugilists from nine districts across Meghalaya to compete in high-stakes bouts across various weight categories.
Officials said hosting the state-level event in Williamnagar reflects the growing push to decentralise major sporting events and provide local athletes and fans in Garo Hills direct access to top-level competition.
